How to Get Rid of Acne

Formation of Skin Pimples and AcneDespite what other people say, it is still important to look good on the outside. The good news is you can always settle with having healthy-looking skin, making it your best physical feature. Unfortunately, not everyone is gifted with great skin and if you suffer from a skin condition like Acne, it can even be a source of embarrassment, low self-esteem and self-consciousness. Read on to find out how to get rid of acne.
What is Acne?
Although the skin is considered to be the largest organ in the human body, it regenerates itself on a continuous basis. During this replacement, excess dead skin cells and oil accumulate in hair follicles
causing blockage. When bacteria enter the picture, you will now have the most common skin condition known to man – Acne.
Although Acne usually affects teens, no one is immune to it. Almost everyone at one point n their lives suffered from a nasty acne episode. Condition can range from mild to severe and if left untreated, it can leave scars on the skin.
So how does one get rid of acne? Consider the following tips
Consult a Skin Expert.
It is important you speak with a professional especially if you are suffering from a severe case of acne. Your doctor can help determine the source of the skin problem (stress, hygiene, etc) and prescribe skincare products / treatments which will not only get rid of the pimples and blackheads but also help you maintain a pimple-free skin. In some cases, you will be prescribed with antibiotics to help your body combat the bacterial infection.

Review your skincare regimen.
With the myriad of skincare products available in the market, it is easy enough to fall into an advertising trap. You need to think of your skin as unique and find gentle products which will allow you to care for your skin. Make sure you do not overuse products as this can make your skin susceptible to dryness and leave it unprotected. Look for products containing ingredients which are known to be gentle on skin. To be sure, test the product on a small area of your face to check for any adverse skin reaction.
Avoid touching your face and pricking your pimples.
The worst thing you can do when you are suffering from acne is to continuously transfer bacteria from your dirty hand to your face. Unfortunately, most of us are not aware we are touching our faces. So if you are constantly finding yourself touching your face, it would be a good idea to wash your hands as frequently as possible. Pricking pimples is also a big NO as it can irritate skin, spread the bacteria and result to more pimples.
Change your lifestyle.
If you have been lax in your exercise routine or have started drinking and smoking excessively, do not be surprised if you are suffering from acne. Such lifestyle creates the perfect breeding ground for acne-causing bacteria as such activities lower immunity. It is also important you exercise as it is actually a form of detoxification, pushing the dead skin cells out of the follicles via sweating. So instead of a sedentary lifestyle, opt for a more active one complemented by a diet rich in fruits and vegetables.
Take a bath daily.
Since acne can affect other parts of the body such as the chest and back, you need to bathe regularly especially if you have an active lifestyle. This is to minimize the level of acne-causing bacteria in the skin and get rid of the acne by reducing the oil on the skin surface. Just like with your face, use mild soap and avoid utilizing abrasive cloths or scrubs.
Use medicated cream and minimize wearing of makeup.
One fast way to get rid of acne is to use medicated cream. Depending on your budget and preference, you can choose one containing salicylic acid or tretinoin, both of which are chemical compounds known for effectively treating acne. As for using makeup, use as little as possible and if you do, look at the ingredients. Find a makeup product which is preferably hypo allergenic and non-comedogenic. Before going to sleep, make sure you remove all traces of makeup and apply medicated cream on the affected area.
Manage stress.
You will be surprised at what stress can do to your skin. When you are stressed, your body is in a fight-or-flight mode and will react by producing more oil. As you know excess oil is bad news for the skin as it can clog your pore and mix with dead skin cells. Worst of all, it can serve as the bacteria’s breeding ground. Learn to manage your stress by having a positive attitude and distracting yourself with things you like doing most such as reading or watching movies.
Sleep.
Lack of sleep can wreak havoc to your skin by weakening your immune system and making you susceptible to acne-causing bacteria. Health experts recommend at least 7-8 hours of sleep daily to allow the entire body, including the skin, to replenish and rejuvenate itself.
Wash your face twice a day.
One of the reasons for this condition is poor hygiene. The dead skin cells should be washed away from the face using mild soap and water. Washing twice daily can help clear your skin of harmful bacteria as well. Of course, it is important you do not overdo it as it can strip your skin of protective barriers.
Eat right and drink plenty of water.
A well-balanced diet, rich in antioxidants and fiber can be beneficial to your skin. On the other hand, high-fat and oily food can leave your skin prone to acne flare-ups. Make sure you always have a serving of fruits and vegetables every meal and load up on water. As a detoxifying agent, water is important in ridding your skin of acne as it keeps the skin well-hydrated.
With these tips, you are sure to know how to get rid of acne and finally enjoy the confidence only great skin can provide.
